Abbaye St-André et ses jardins

The history of this unique place dates back to the 6th century. Located on Mount Andaon, in the superb enclave of Fort Saint-André, the Royal and Benedictine Abbey overlooks the Rhône and faces the Popes’ City on the opposite bank. Founded in the 10th century, its origins go back to Casarie, a female saint who lived as a hermit in a cave on the hilltop. The gardens, arranged in terraces in the Tuscan Renaissance and Mediterranean style, are among some of the most beautiful in France.
