Hivernales Danse Festival

Every year, Avignon is transformed into the epicentre of contemporary dance thanks to the unmissable Hivernales festival. On the programme: captivating performances, enriching courses and exhibitions, both in the city and in the surrounding area. A major cultural event in the heart of winter!

Since its creation in 1979 by Amélie Grand, the festival has established itself as a leading event for contemporary dance in France. True to its original concept, it encourages exchanges between amateurs and professionals, with guest artists running workshops and courses during the day, before presenting their shows in the evening. This unique approach strengthens the links between the different spheres of the choreographic world.

Each edition reflects the richness and vitality of contemporary dance. Among the emblematic choreographers who have taken part are Boris Charmatz, Philippe Découflé, Angelin Preljocaj and Maguy Marin, all of whom have offered striking and diverse creations representing the plurality of this art form.

For ten days or so, Avignon and the surrounding area will be vibrating to the rhythm of contemporary dance, welcoming enthusiasts from all walks of life.
