As the festive season approaches, Avignon is decked out in its finest lights and hosts its traditional Christmas Market on the legendary Place de l’Horloge. This year’s event marks a much-anticipated return to the historic heart of the city, offering visitors a warm and authentic atmosphere at the foot of the Town Hall.
For several weeks, the wooden stalls run by local traders and craftspeople invite visitors to discover handmade creations, original gift ideas and unmissable Provençal specialities. With Christmas treats, Avignon papalines, the ‘treize desserts’, santons, jewellery and local produce on offer, there’s something for everyone to make this festive season truly unforgettable.
The market’s magical atmosphere is extended by the festive season events that bring the town centre’s streets to life, as well as the famous Provençal nativity scene and the santon makers’ market – true symbols of Provençal traditions.
