Le Pont d’Avignon

The Pont Saint-Bénezet, the iconic Pont d’Avignon, was built between 1177 and 1185 and originally had 22 arches. Today, only 4 remain as a result of numerous floods! At the time it was supported by the Barthelasse island, which had many popular taverns during the 19th century. Hence the famous ‘Sur le Pont d’Avignon’ song.
